Why Our Work Matters
We are committed to ensuring that every mother and newborn, regardless of location or financial status, receives high-quality, life-saving maternal care. Developed, delivered, and coordinated by experienced midwives, our organization follows the World Health Organization’s (WHO) midwifery model of care, which is proven to be cost-effective, women-centered, and highly beneficial for families and communities.
Providing preventative maternal and newborn care is one of the most effective ways to reduce healthcare costs while improving health outcomes. M’wives on Wheels focuses on early intervention and community-based care, which significantly reduces the need for costly emergency treatments and hospitalizations. M’wives on Wheels focuses on early intervention and community-based care, which significantly reduces preventable maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity. By ensuring regular antenatal check-ups, early detection of high-risk pregnancies, and timely interventions, our midwives help prevent life-threatening conditions such as anemia, preeclampsia, malpresentation, gestational diabetes, and postpartum hemorrhage, reducing preventable complications.
Many maternal deaths in low-income countries occur due to delays in accessing care or no access to care in the most remote regions. By bringing midwifery services directly to communities, we reduce these delays and thus reduce preventable mortality and morbidity. Midwifery-led care is also associated with fewer unnecessary medical interventions, lower rates of cesarean sections, and shorter hospital stays, all of which contribute to significant cost savings.
The WHO recommends at least eight antenatal visits and three postnatal check-ups, but in many low-income regions, women often receive little to no care due to geographical barriers, financial constraints, and shortages of healthcare providers. M’wives on Wheels ensures that pregnant women receive timely and essential maternal care, reducing preventable deaths and complications. Newborns have access to critical interventions such as early breastfeeding support, thermal care, and vaccinations, which reduce neonatal mortality and future healthcare costs. Postnatal care and family planning services, empowering women to make informed reproductive health decisions and improve their overall well-being.
In many rural and underserved areas, access to healthcare facilities is limited or nonexistent. M’wives on Wheels eliminates this challenge by supporting the birth attendants with enhance and up to date skills, and deliver essential maternal health services directly to women. Our mobile midwifery units and community-based healthcare programs provide on-the-ground care for pregnant women and new mothers.
Investing in midwifery-led preventative care is not just about saving lives—it is also one of the most cost-effective strategies for improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. According to global studies, for every dollar invested in midwifery care, there is a sixteen-fold return in terms of cost savings and improved health outcomes. Expanding midwifery services could prevent up to 67% of maternal deaths and 64% of newborn deaths, making it a high-impact and low-cost solution for countries with limited healthcare resources.
M’wives on Wheels services is a mission-driven, cost-effective, and life-saving initiative that directly contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), which aims to reduce global maternal mortality to fewer than 70 deaths per 100,000 live births by 2030. Together, we can ensure that no woman dies from preventable causes—one mother, one baby, one community at a time.
